Cookie Policy

EXTENDED NOTICE ON THE USE OF COOKIES PURSUANT TO REGULATION (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR")

The purpose of this Cookie Policy (hereinafter also referred to as the "Policy") is to describe how the website, currently available at https://www.madeinitaly.gov.it, is managed with regard to the use of cookies or markers (hereinafter also referred to as "Cookies").

The above website is owned by ITA – Italian Trade & Investment Agency (ICE – Agenzia per la promozione all’estero e l’internazionalizzazione delle imprese italiane).

Hereinafter referred to as 'ITA'.

Cookies or markers (hereinafter also referred to as "Cookies") are packets of information sent by a web server (in this case by this website) to the Internet browser (hereinafter also referred to as "Browser") of the user/visitor and automatically stored by the latter on the personal computer or mobile device (hereinafter also referred to as "Device") used for navigation. Cookies are automatically sent back to the server each time the website is accessed.

This site uses Cookies, therefore, for a complete enjoyment of the service we recommend that you configure your Browser to accept the reception of Cookies.

1. General information about the Cookies used

We would like to inform you that by default almost all browsers are set to automatically accept Cookies. However, users/visitors can change the default settings at any time.

However, as stated above, disabling or deleting Cookies may prevent the optimal use of certain areas/functions of the website or compromise the use of services offered under authentication.

If users/visitors want to decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not to accept Cookies, they can also configure their Browser so that it generates a warning each time a Cookie is saved.

The Cookies used may be: (1) persistent, i.e. they are stored on the hard disk of the user/visitor's Device until they expire; (2) session Cookies, i.e. they are not stored persistently on the hard disk of the user/visitor's Device and are deleted when the Browser is closed.

Cookies are used to: (a) facilitate navigation within the site and ensure its proper use; (b) facilitate access to services that require authentication (avoiding that users have to re-enter authentication credentials each time they access the services); (c) for statistical purposes, to know which areas of the site have been visited; (d) for optimal management of pages and advertising space; (e) to provide content and advertising in line with the choices made by surfers (so-called behavioral advertising with dynamic creativity).

Session Cookies are used to transmit the identifiers of browsing sessions in order to allow safe and efficient exploration of the site. The session Cookies used on this site avoid the use of other computer techniques that could potentially compromise the confidentiality of the navigation of users/visitors and are also used to improve the provision of the services offered.

In addition, the Cookies may be owned by the site (used, for example, to know the number of pages visited on the site) or third-party Cookies (generated by other sites to deliver content on the site visited by users). This site may use anonymous third-party Cookies in order to dynamically manage the delivery of advertising messages. The most widely used Browsers provide the possibility of blocking third-party cookies exclusively, accepting only the site's own Cookies. In addition, some companies that generate Cookies on third-party sites offer the possibility to deactivate and/or inhibit only their own Cookies in a simple and immediate manner, even when these are anonymous, i.e. they do not involve the registration of personal identification data such as IP addresses.

2. Cookies used for aggregate analysis of site visits

ITA uses tools for the aggregate analysis of browsing data in order to improve the sites (Google Analytics). These tools use Cookies that are installed on the user/visitor's Device in order to allow the operator of the sites to analyse how users/visitors use the sites. The information generated by the Cookies on the use of the sites by the user/visitor (including the IP address anonymised by masking certain fields) will be transmitted and stored on Adobe and Google servers.

This information may be used to track and examine the use of the sites by users/visitors for reporting purposes and to provide other services related to the activities of the sites, as well as to perform navigation. In order to protect the confidentiality of users/visitors as much as possible, ITA uses the "IP masking" feature which requires the system to black out the last 8 digits of the user/visitor's IP address before any kind of processing is carried out, thus making the analysed data effectively anonymous.

Users/visitors will in any case have the possibility of inhibiting the use of Google Analytics and preventing it from being stored on their own Devices through the specific Browser add-on for deactivating Google Analytics, made available by Google at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. In order to activate this component which inhibits the system of sending information on the user/visitor's visit, it will be sufficient to install it by following the instructions on the screen, close and reopen the Browser.

3. How to disable Cookies

Most Browsers are initially configured to automatically accept Cookies. The user/visitor can modify these configurations in order to inhibit Cookies or to warn that Cookies are being used on his/her device. There are various ways of managing Cookies and the user/visitor can refer to the user manual or help screen of his/her Browser to find out how to configure or change the settings for Cookies. If you use different Devices (e.g. personal computers, smartphones, tablets, etc.), you should ensure that each Browser on each Device you use is configured to reflect your preferences regarding the use of Cookies.

4. Cookies used to serve interest-based ads

Sites may use third-party cookies to serve ads based on the interests of users/visitors. This information is collected while the user/visitor is browsing and is in no way linked to the account with which the latter accesses the sites. In particular, Google Adwords by Google Inc. uses browsing data within its online advertising circuit in order to propose ads that are more relevant to the interests of the user/visitor expressed during browsing sessions.

ITA employs the aforementioned technology and uses navigation data within its own websites in order to propose targeted and interest-based advertisements to the user/visitor. More generally, each browser allows the user/visitor to deactivate third-party Cookies aimed at allowing advertising based on the interests expressed by the latter.
